"Ducks on the Pond" is a love letter to baseball, but it's not just diamonds, dust & Dodgers. It's about youth, wonder & nostalgia-simpler times when Pluto was a planet & reality stars were not. Steal away to Kool Aid-stained summer days, wiffle ball, BBQ hot dogs and "American Top 40" with Casey Kasem. Award-winning writer R. Scott Murphy uses his "storyteller mashup" style to blend "Cultural Literacy" with "Schoolhouse Rock" and take snapshots of the grand game. He morphs generations of Bronx Bombers in "Revelry In The House of Ruth," the ultimate conversation starter for Yankee Nation. Liven up your longball lingo with "The Home Run Alphabet." Take a poetic excursion to every MLB stadium & every World Series played since 1965. Count down Murphy's favorite baseball nicknames with music references as assigned by ESPN's Chris Berman. Albert Pujols becomes "E Pluribus Pujols," and "The Monsters Are Raging On Huston Street."" As Casey Kasem would say, "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars."

Ducks on the Pond eBook R. Scott Murphy Reviews

A delightful read for any fan of baseball or poetry! This book breathes new life and love into the sport of baseball. It brings you back to your childhood, full of late night baseball games. It speaks to the cheering fan, the childhood love, and the adult adulation of the game.
R. SCOTT MURPHY'S "DUCKS ON THE POND" (A REVIEW)

If you are looking for a great anthology ode to baseball, you must pick up this book. R. Scott Murphy has put together poetry and prose, laced with wonderful back stories that highlight the history of this Great American Sport perfectly.

There is no way you can escape the nostalgia this book so eloquently offers.

-Kitty Bullard / Great Minds Think Aloud Book Club
R. Scott Murphy loves baseball and loves the Yankees in particular. He expresses this love by writing stories and poems. His home run alphabet is especially interesting and takes up at least half the book. If you don't love baseball this book will appear to be written in a foreign language. But if you do love baseball you will be in the know and relate to all the lingo. I can recommend this to anyone who loves baseball no matter what team you are cheering for.

Take me out to a ballgame and I don’t care if I never get back.

This book is the author’s, R, Scott Murphy’s reminiscence into America’s pastime we fondly know as baseball.

I found Mr. Murphy’s writing through his prose and poetry to be quite allegorical as it calls its readers to reflect on their younger days, and the wonderment of those times when life itself had been quite unpretentious. And all we can do these days is to simply remind ourselves of the sentimental times we’ve had enjoyed.

If you’re a child of the 1950’s like me, you’ve enjoyed drinking those 5 cent packages of Kool-Aid powder while listening the music Casey Kasen played each week on his “American Top 40.”

I loved his descriptive poetic guided tour of all of the Major League Baseball Stadiums, along with his Japanese 3 lines of Haiku themed poetry [5-7-5 syllables] about each of the World Series Games from 1965-2010 and let’ us not forget some of the players themselves got treated with the same type of poetry.

For having given all lovers of this great American pastime, something with which they can relive the fond memories of their youth, I’m giving Mr. Murphy 5 STARS.
Scott did a great job captuing my attention from the start of the book through out. He is a great storyteller and can make you feel you are on the field!
love yes, but the prose and poetry are cute and superficial. Not deep like the experience really can be/was. It doesn't probe friendship, grace, showmanship or heroics. Name dropping, like rapping with nostalgia. Didn't finish. Boring.
Ducks on the Pond captures my mind and keeps me enthralled to the end. R. Scott Murphy's gifted creativity is exemplified in this book and reveals to the readers (especially me) his own love for the game, his immense recollection/knowledge of baseball history/story tellin', and of course a little air guitar with it all-ducks on the pond, ducks on the pond. Take me out to the ballgame! Hotdogs! Hotdogs! Gotta have one, too!
A fun & unique book. I really like the way the author incorporates fun facts of our younger years while expressing his love for baseball. You will enjoy this book for many reasons. I'm an Albert Pujols fan & loved the areas dedicated to him. You only hope someone like Albert knows when someone writes such nice things about him. While it is described as a love letter to baseball (and a good one @ that), it is also fun to remember other fun facts the author includes. Who doesn't remember listening to Casey Kasem's Top 40, watching "The Wonder Years", the flux capicator from "Back to the Future", etc.? This is a fun read for baseball fans & for reminiscing about your youth. The author really knows his baseball & shares his love of the game for all of us to enjoy!
